AZERI, FRENCH COMPANIES SIGN AGREEMENT TO IMPROVE SEWERAGE SYSTEM

On Wednesday Azersu Joint Stock Company and French company OTV SA signed an agreement on the project of expansion and reconstruction of major transmitting sewerage lines and pump station 2 in Zykh and the Hovsani rig for sewerage water treatment (Hovsani project).

The documents were undersigned by the President of OTV SA, Jean Michel, and the President of Azersu, Ogtai Asadov.

Addressing the event Asadov said that the sewerage system of the Baku city had been exploited since 1934 and now in need of reconstruction and renewal.

Despite the construction of sewerage lines with the length of 10,000 meters in 2002-2004, some significant work were not implemented due to financial shortages.

The French government has allocated a 35m euro credit to Azerbaijan for the improvement of the sewerage system and ecology of Baku with the term of 5 years. OTV SA was elected by the French government as a company which proposed favorable investment terms.

The budget of the project is 43.95m euro, including the 8.95m euro worth share of Azerbaijan.

В"The Hovsani project is the first international investment project to be implemented in the sewerage system,” Asadov said.

Attending the signing ceremony were Farhad Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Minister for Economic Development, Roland Blatman, the French Ambassador to Azerbaijan and senior governmental officials.
