Twenty Wells to be Drilled in Oil Rocks Offshore Field

Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 December / Trend Capital, corr.E.Ismaylov / Bail Limani off-shore drilling department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will complete drilling of new twenty-two wells in the Oil Rocks-1887 platform in 2009-2010.

Twelve wells have already been drilled in the platform.

The Oil Rocks-1887 platform consists of five blocks and was set up in of the same name field in the depth of 64 metres under water.

These measures are taken under the order of the Azerbaijani President to increase the oil production volume from Oil Rocks-1887 platform from 812,000 to 1.2mln tons. In 2008, the total volume of produced oil from the field made up 936,400 tons. The company plans to increase the oil production to 1.02mln tons.

According to geologists of SOCAR, residual volume of oil from the Oil Rocks-1887 platform is 30mln tons. SOCAR will drill 78 new wells to 2010 in order to increase the oil production.
