Azerbaijan delivers 18 million cubic meters of gas to Turkey

Turkey imports roughly 16-18 million cubic meters of gas each day from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field. Meanwhile, daily gas deliveries to Georgia total 1.3-1.4 million cubic meters, a government source told Trend . Azerbaijan receives the remained amount of gas from the Shah Deniz each day.

The contract to develop the offshore Shah Deniz field was signed June 4, 1996. The shares are as follows: ВР (25.5 percent); Statoil Hydro (25.5 percent); Socar (10 percent); LukAgip (10 percent); NICO (10 percent); Total (10 percent); and TPAO (9 percent).

Gas production commenced in December 2006. At present, gas is transported to Georgia and Turkey via the South Caucasus Pipeline. Azerbaijan is also a buyer.

Some 9 billion cubic meters of gas will be produced within the first stage of the field's development compared to earlier projected 8.6 billion cubic meters of gas. These volumes will be sold to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. As part of the second stage after 2012, production will increase to 20 billion cubic meters. It is planned to export gas to the European countries within this stage.
