Uzbekistan and China plan to sign a contract for the purchase of Uzbek gas in the fourth quarter of 2011, a source in government circles told Trend on Wednesday.
Purchase of Uzbek gas is envisaged by the agreement on the basic conditions of the contract on sale of Uzbek natural gas, signed between the National Holding Company (NHC) Uzbekneftegaz and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) in April this year during Uzbek President Islam Karimov's visit to China.
According to the source, gas supplies will begin from 2012. The volume of gas supplies is not announced.
As previously reported, in June 2010, China and Uzbekistan signed a framework agreement for the sale-purchase of Uzbek natural gas.
Upon the framework agreement, China will buy in Uzbekistan 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.
