Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has nominated Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC or Sepah) Brig Gen Rostam Ghasemi as the Oil Minister, reported Mehr News Agency.

Ghasemi is also the commander of IRGC base Khatamul-Anbia Construction Company.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sacked Oil Minster Masoud Mirkazemi four months ago and Mohammad Alibadi is the Oil Ministry takecare since March 2011.

Despite early speculations over Mohammad Aliabadi's candidacy for the Oil Ministry, Ahmadinejad made his choice on Rostam Ghasemi for this position. He will submit his candidature to the parliament for approval.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will submit the list of candidates to head the newly established ministries of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Security and Industry, Mines and Trade, Oil Ministry and Sport and Youth Affairs will be submitted to the parliament to receive the MPs vote of confidence.

According to the latest news, the government list of nominees to head the new merged ministries includes Roustam Ghasemi as the Oil Minister, Abdolreza Sheikholeslami as the minister for Cooperatives, Labor and social Security, Mehdi Ghazanfari as minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, and Mohammad Abbasi as minister of Sport and Youth Affairs.

Iran 's parliament approved the formation of two ministries on the bases of five ministries, with 174 votes for, five votes against, and five votes abstained.

The Ministries of Cooperatives, Labor, Welfare and Social Security merged, as did the Mines and Industries Ministry with the Ministry of Commerce.

According to legislation, all functions and administrative powers of these ministries are being transferred into two new ministries of "Cooperatives, Labor and Social Security" and "Industry, Mining and Trade".
