Iran's oil ministry is in the midst of establishing an organisation focusing on self-reliance in the oil industry, Shana news agency reports.

It's crucial for oil industry managers to consider the domestic production of equipment and parts needed for the industry as being their immediate focus, said Rostam Ghasemi Iran's oil minister as he announced the organisation's formation.

Domestically production currently imports critical oil equipment and parts that are a priority for the oil industry, Mr. Ghasemi had said earlier.

Cost, speed and quality in domestic production were emphasised by the oil minister.

The U.S and EU have ratcheted up sanctions against Iran's oil industry. Because of this, foreign companies that previously sold parts and equipment to Iran are dropping away.

The West's measures are part of an effort to make Iran answer questions about its nuclear programme which it says is peaceful and civilian in nature while the U.S. and its allies contend it is not.
