European Commission makes forecasts for €3 mln TRACECA project

The European Commission published a forecast for a €3 million service contract for the ENPI - TRACECA - maritime safety and security II project, ENPI Info Center reported on Thursday.

The service contract for the project will cover Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey.

According to the forecast, the overall objective of this technical assistance project is to help make shipping safer, more secure and environmentally friendly, thus promoting the further alignment of the maritime safety and security legislation with the relevant EU 'acquis' in the field and especially with the EU's third maritime safety package.

The aims of the project include support the further ratification and implementation of international maritime safety and security conventions; improve the quality of maritime administrations in the Black and Caspian Seas partner countries.

Despite being a regional project, the programme should focus also on specific needs at national level of each partner country.

The maximum budget for the contract is €3 million.

The project will build on the work of the TRACECA SASEPOL project, which ran from 2009-2011.

TRACECA is an international transport cooperation program between the EU and its Partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. It has a permanent Secretariat in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Currently, TRACECA member states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Iran.
