Libya has resumed production of natural gas on the 'Sahil' field over a year after cessation of production on that field, the Libyan National oil Company reported on its official website on Monday.

Some 50 million cubic feet of gas with a further increase in production will take place on the field in the first phase. It is noted that the 'Sahil' field is the major gas field in Libya.
Libyan company Sirte will be engaged in the production of gas from the field.

In January 2012, natural gas production in Libya amounted to 1.491.2 billion cubic feet per day.

At the same time, production of associated gas during this period amounted to 522.4 million cubic feet per day. Production of capacitors amounted to 61.247 million cubic feet per day in January.

According to BP, proven gas reserves in Libya as of late 2011 hit 1.5 trillion cubic meters. In 2011, gas production in the country amounted to 4.1 billion cubic meters.
