It is planned to create a ring energy system in order to ensure uninterrupted power supply to Turkmenistan’s consumers, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Dadebay Amangeldiev said at a government meeting, Turkmenistan State News Agency reported Feb. 10.
He said that there are 13 power plants operating in Turkmenistan. As part of the project, it is planned to construct a two-ring transmission line of 220 kV and a 220 kV power plant uniting the energy systems of the Akhal and Balkan provinces, as well as a 500 kV single-ring transmission line and a 500 kV power plant in Balkanabat and Dashoguz cities.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that the state energy policy is aimed at fully meeting the needs of industry, agriculture, social sector, as well as increasing exports.
Earlier it was reported that it is planned to increase the total volume of electricity produced in Turkmenistan to 33 billion kilowatt-hours by 2024, which is 27.2 percent more compared to the plans for 2018.
