2019 can be called a positive year for the Georgian oil industry, Trend reports referring to the Georgian Union of Petroleum Importers.
As reported, from January through November 2019, imports of gasoline and diesel fuel to Georgia amounted to 992,600 tons, which is 1,600 tons or 0.2 percent more than in the same period of 2018.
For 11 months of 2019, the largest volume of gasoline and diesel fuel was imported from Russia – 297,600 tons, or 30 percent of total imports.
In the first three quarters of 2019, 24,538 tons of oil products were processed including 692 tons of gasoline and 10,633 tons diesel fuel.
In 2019, import of oil bitumen in Georgia reached a record level. From January through November 2019, imports of oil bitumen amounted to 163,600 tons, which is 70,000 tons or 74.8 percent more compared to the same period last year.
This is due to a significant increase in road construction in Georgia, the report said.
The use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Georgia as an alternative to gasoline is also increasing significantly. Currently, there are over 7,000 vehicles using this fuel in Georgia.
Import of LPG from January through November this year amounted to 15,400 tons, which is 2,600 tons or 20.3 percent more than the same period last year.
