Georgia cuts fuel imports and consumption

In January 2020, imports of gasoline and diesel fuel to Georgia amounted to 74,700 tons, which is 3,700 tons or 4.7 percent less than in January 2019 (78,400 tons), Trend reports referring to Union of Petroleum Importers of Georgia.

In the reporting period, imports of gasoline fuel amounted to 42,000 tons, which is 9,700 tons or 23 percent less than in January 2019. The import of diesel fuel amounted to 32,600 tons, which is 5,900 tons, or 18 percent more than in January 2019.

In terms of the fuel categories, in January 2020, the import of A-91 Regular gasoline amounted to 29,800 tons or 70.9 percent compared to January 2019; A-95 premium gasoline – to 12,000 tons or 28.5 percent; A-98 Super gasoline - 200 tons or 0.5 percent.

In January 2020, the largest volume of gasoline and diesel fuel was imported by Georgia from Russia – 23,200 tons, which amounted to 31 percent of total imports.

The countries exporting gasoline and diesel fuel to Georgia included Romania – 22,300 tons (29.8 percent), Turkmenistan – 10,600 tons (14.1 percent); Bulgaria – 8,500 tons (11.3 percent), Turkey – 3,700 tons (4.9 percent), Greece – 3,600 tons (4.8 percent) and others.

According to the Union of Petroleum Importers, traditionally in January, import and consumption of fuel is always significantly lower compared to other months.

This is due to the New Year holidays and vacations, as well as to the harsh winter climate, when the movement on vehicles is significantly reduced.
