IRENA to partake in Azerbaijan's bioenergy mapping

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan reached an agreement on the preparation of the country’s bioenergy map, Trend reports on July 2 referring to the ministry.

The agreement was concluded during a videoconference between the agency’s Director-General Francesco La Camera and Head of the ministry’s administrative office Zaur Mammadov.

The parties also agreed to conduct work on measuring wind energy to be offered at actions and implementing joint projects to collect data on wind indicators in accordance with internationally accepted standards.

During the videoconference, Mammadov told the director-general about the prospects for the development of renewable energy in Azerbaijan, the work conducted in this area and the ongoing projects.

He noted the draft law of Azerbaijan "On the use of renewable energy in the production of electricity" which has been agreed upon with the relevant structures and submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers.

The office’s head also pointed out that arrangements are underway in Azerbaijan for conducting tenders n relevant projects.

Speaking about the long-term fruitful relations of cooperation between Azerbaijan and IRENA, La Camera informed about the partnership of agency with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to accelerate and achieve sustainable development and expand relations with Azerbaijan within the framework of this cooperation.
