Tehran's thermal power plants cut mazut consumption

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov.8

Tehran's thermal power plants are no longer consuming Mazut and their fuel is currently supplied from natural gas, said Managing Director of Tehran Thermal Energy Company.

"The three thermal power plants of Tarasht, Rey and Besat in Tehran Province are currently consuming natural gas, although Rey power plant is also consumed gasoline fuel limitedly," said Yaghoub Rouhi, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

According to him, mazut consumption has been eliminated from the production cycle in thermal power plants due to the cooperation between Tehran power plants and the Department of Environment in recent years," he said.

"Besat Power Plant is currently using carbon dioxide extraction system on its exhaust in steam units that have been installed recently to reduce pollution, the following system would prevent the spread of CO2 to the environment," he said.

Rouhi went on to say that Tarash and Rey power plants are expected to replace worn-out units to produce eco-friendly electricity and install modern units to improve productivity and reduce fuel consumption. In addition to the following three public power plants, the combined power plants of the private sector in Pakdasht and Parand are to cut gas consumption and would limitedly consume gasoline.
