BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 22. Iran is expected to start production from Phase 11, the last inactive phase of the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar), as of the 7th month of current Iranian year (September 23 through October 22, 2022), Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.

The minister noted that Phase 11 of the South Pars gas field is being developed at the expense of local companies. In the first stage, it is estimated that 670 million cubic feet (about 19 million cubic meters) of gas will be produced daily from this phase.

Owji also added that at the initiative of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), the 12C platform of the South Pars gas field was brought to Phase 11 and installed there. Some new wells were drilled in this phase at the expense of local companies.

“Since the new government came to power in Iran (August 2021), the development and launch of the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field has been on the agenda,” he said.

According to Owji, as a result of cooperation with local and foreign experts, a station for increasing gas pressure at all phases of the South Pars gas field will be established.

In 2017, the project to develop the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field was entrusted to France's Total, China's CNPCI and Iran's Petropars. However, the foreign companies have refused to carry out operations at the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field as a result of US sanctions against Iran. As a result, the operations at this phase were fully entrusted to the Petropars Operation and Management Company (POMC).

The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
