BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 25. Iran's gas production capacity exceeded 1 billion cubic meters for the first time, over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.
According to the report, using all available opportunities, Iranian Oil Ministry is taking the necessary steps to increase production from the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar). Although Qatar's share in the field is twice as large, Iran's rich gas production from the mentioned field is more than Qatar's.
At the same time, Iran's gas production from the South Pars gas field for the last Iranian year, increased by 4 percent compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021). Thus, Iran’s production from this field reached 705 million cubic meters daily in the ending months of the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
Within last Iranian year, development work on phases 13, 22, 23 and 24 of the South Pars gas field was completed.
Meanwhile, physical work on the development of the 14th phase of the field was more than 91 percent at the end of last Iranian year (March 20, 2022).
At present, the 11th phase of South Pars gas field is being developed, where physical progress was more than 34 percent at the end of last year, and initial production is expected to begin in the coming months.
In 2017, the project to develop the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field was entrusted to France's Total, China's CNPCI and Iran's Petropars. However, the foreign companies have refused to carry out operations at the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field as a result of US sanctions against Iran. As a result, the operations at this phase were fully entrusted to the Petropars Operation and Management Company (POMC).
The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
