BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 14. Azerbaijan has big development potential in energy conservation, a Senior Expert on Energy Efficiency in Buildings at the Lebanese Energy Management and Environment Association, as well as an expert invited by the EU to work on an Energy Efficiency Project in Azerbaijan Adel Murtada told Trend.

"An energy management assessment should be carried out in Azerbaijan. We're currently working on it. Today's Azerbaijan pays special attention to the heating season, however, the highest consumption of electricity falls in the summer months due to great cooling demand. Therefore, it's necessary to develop cooling systems for buildings. Sun protection technology can also be successfully applied," Murtada said.

According to him, the energy-saving potential in Azerbaijan's commercial and residential sectors fluctuates between 50 and 60 percent.

"Future buildings are supposed to have thermal control while existing buildings should be properly designed," he added.

Murtada noted that the information campaign is a crucial part of the mentioned project.

"Over the past two days, we've shared expert knowledge with the Energy Ministry staff and enterprises. We're receiving feedback from representatives of the education sector as well," he stressed.
