BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 2. Natural gas sales by Italian Eni company have decreased by 19 percent in the first three months of 2023, as compared to the same period in 2022, Trend reports with reference to the company.
The decrease was mainly due to the lower gas volumes marketed in Italy, particularly in the wholesalers’ segment. In the European markets gas volumes were down by 12 percent, as the sales decrease in the United Kingdom and the Iberian Peninsula, while higher volumes were sold in Germany and Austria.
Retail and business gas sales stood at 2.91 bcm in the first quarter of 2023, decreasing by 15 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Mild weather conditions and increasing customer awareness of gas usage caused lower volumes of sales in residential segments, which led to a decrease in retail and business gas sales in Italy. Outside of Italy, sales were impacted by lower volumes marketed in France and Greece.
Eni produced 4,608 mmcf/d in the first three months of 2023, thereby keeping the output volume almost at the same level as in the first quarter of 2022. The company primarily increased the output in Algeria, Mozambique and Libya, while the mature fields saw a decline.
The country reported 780 kbbl/d of liquid production, also unchanged compared to Q1 2022. The average hydrocarbon production stood at 1.66 mln boe/d, almost at the same level as in Q1 2022.
The main drivers of production were Mozambique, Mexico, Algeria, as well as Libya and the United States. These increases were offset by lower production due to mature fields decline.
