BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 8. Pakistan will buy additional electricity from neighboring Iran, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said, Trend reports.

According to the report, the decision was made at a meeting of the economic coordination committee headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

Facing power shortages, Pakistan has signed agreements to buy electricity from Tehran for China-backed development projects in its border regions with Iran, particularly at the Gwadar port.

Pakistan's Ministry of Finance did not disclose any additional details on the amount of electricity acquired from Iran.

The fresh idea comes less than a week after Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian visited Pakistan.

According to reports, Iran confronts power shortages in numerous places during the summer due to the country's high consumption.

Except during the summer season (June 22 to September 22), Iran's daily electricity consumption is over 40,000 megawatts. Iran currently consumes more than 72,000 megawatts of electricity each day.
