Oil bitumen import to Georgia declines

Imports of oil bitumen to Georgia amounted to 3,500 tons in April 2020, which is 3,000 tons or 46.1 percent less than in March 2020, Trend reports referring to the Union of Oil Product Importers of Georgia.

Meanwhile, this indicator is 10,800 tons or 7.3 percent less compared to April 2019.

According to the union, in March 2020, Azerbaijan exported 3,000 tons (85.7 percent) of oil bitumen to Georgia. In addition, Georgia imported 1,000 tons (2.9 percent) of oil bitumen from the Islamic Republic of Iran and 40 tons (1.1 percent) from Russia.

From January through April 2020, the import of oil bitumen to Georgian amounted to 17,800 tons, which is 12,200 tons or 40.7 percent less than the same period last year (19,200 tons).

Of this volume, 9,000 tons (50.6 percent) of imports account for Azerbaijan; 7,100 tons (39.9 percent) for the Islamic Republic of Iran; 1,000 tons (5.6 percent) for Iraq; 200 tons (1.1 percent) for the United Arab Emirate; and, 40 tons (0.2 percent) for Russia.

“The reduction in oil bitumen imports is directly related to the restrictions imposed due to the spread of COVID-19,” the Union of Oil Product Importers of Georgia said.
