Volume of foreign investments made in Iran's free trade zones announced

A total of $158 million worth of foreign investments were made in Iran's free trade and special economic zones during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through December 20, 2020), said Deputy Head of Iran's High Council on free trade zones Ahmad Jamali told IRIB, Trend reports.

The official noted that about $1.5 billion worth of foreign investments were approved to be made in Iran in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2019, through March 20, 2020).

Jamali added that these figures show that about 15 percent of foreign investments in Iran are made in free trade zones.

In general, 1.08 trillion rials (about $25.7 billion) and $28.5 billion worth of local investment had been made in Iran's Free Trade and Special Economic Zones as of eight years ago (March 21, 2013). At the same time, more than $5.5 billion worth of foreign investments had been invested in Iran's free trade and special economic zones over the reporting period.
