BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 11. The Speaker of Azerbaijan's parliament Sahiba Gafarova, delivered a speech at the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum informing about the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the parliament's press service told Trend.
The Speaker pointed out that hosting this prestigious international event is a feather in Azerbaijan's cap, showcasing their dedication to fighting climate change, not just within their borders but also on a larger scale.
In order to promote climate-related activities and accomplish goals, the speaker of the parliament stressed the significance of incorporating all parties. She said that a shared vision of a sustainable and successful future for everyone can only be realized through positive cooperation, significant commitments, and coordinated effort. Gafarova emphasized that Azerbaijan's choice to host COP29 is a demonstration of confidence in its ability to bring nations and communities together around a common objective. Azerbaijan is committed to fully supporting international efforts aimed at addressing climate change.
Calling on parliamentarians to actively seek solutions to the climate crisis, the speaker informed participants about the upcoming joint parliamentary meeting of the parliament of Azerbaijan and the inter-parliamentary union within COP29. She emphasized that this meeting will provide a valuable opportunity for parliamentarians to exchange views, find solutions to combat climate change, and contribute to the implementation of multilateral activities in this field.
This November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku will become the center of the world and will receive about 70–80,000 foreign guests.
