BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 11. The adverse effects of climate change are depleting resources, the head of the Multilateral Environmental Agreements Unit at the Ministry of Planning and Development of Trinidad and Tobago, Kishan Kumarsingh said, Trend reports.
He made the remark at the COP29 event, “Just Resilience: Just Transitions towards a more equal and climate-resilient society.”
“Climate change is having negative impacts on many key sectors of the economy that are particularly vulnerable to climate challenges. Global climate change is leading to increased droughts and rainfall, which in turn causes flooding and damages agricultural production and food security. The consequences affect not only the economy but also public health,” he said.
Kumarsingh warned that unless drastic measures are taken, the situation will only worsen.
He added that the adverse effects of climate change are depleting resources and causing many unintended consequences, including threats to national security, migration, and competition for jobs and resources.
Kumarsingh emphasized that in the future, with the development of technologies such as artificial intelligence and automation in agriculture, new challenges may emerge, including risks for traditional farmers.
