BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 13. Azerbaijan firmly supports the Troika structure, said Yalcin Rafiyev, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan and COP29 Lead Negotiator at the "Troika High-level Dialogue: Our Roadmap to Mission 1.5 towards a future of shared prosperity", Trend reports.
“I would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm Azerbaijan’s steadfast support for the Troika structure. We also express our deep gratitude to the United Arab Emirates and Brazil for their unwavering cooperation.
Together, ahead of COP29, we have worked diligently within our mandate, and over the past year, we have followed a clear trajectory aimed at raising ambitions, generating political momentum, and closing key gaps in climate action,” Rafiyev said.
To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) kicked off in Baku on November 11.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
