By Huseyn Valiyev – Trend:

ADSL service is not expected to be removed from internet providers’ portfolio in Azerbaijan in the next five years, General Director of Azerbaijani internet provider Avirtel Esmaeil Shabani told Trend.

According to Shabani, geographical aspect is the main reason for the ADSL technology dominating the local market.

“There are territories where special efforts are required to lay copper lines, not to mention fiber-optic cables. Installation of fiber-optic lines is carried out according to certain standards, requiring cable-sewerage facilities, which can’t be built without state support and considerable investments. Even in the US there are some areas with the ADSL dominance. In general, there are no reasons for the ADSL technology to leave the market in the next five years. However development of the technology, leading to access speed increase, is quite possible,” Shabani said.

According to the head of Avirtel, the wireless internet access over the LTE technology is not expected to find a market among corporate users due to lack of secure access.

“The corporate segment tends to use fiber-optic connection. It seems that fixed LTE access will be popular among home users,” Shabani said.
