Georgia continues to strengthen its role in regional transport corridor

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 2

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgia continues to strengthen its role in the regional transport corridor, said Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava, Trend reports via Georgian media.

“In order to develop port infrastructure on the Black Sea, the port of Poti will be expanded within the framework of the APM terminal project, and the new Pace Group terminal will be built in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation under the US government,” said Turnava.

According to her, the state will support the development of the deep-water port of Anaklia.

Anaklia Port Development Consortium was founded by TBC Holding and joined by American companies Conti International LLC and SSA Marine, British Wondernet Express, and Bulgarian G-Star Ltd. However, in August 2019, Conti International LLC announced its intention to leave the consortium, and ADC was left without the main investor.

The construction of the new port began in December 2017; in July 2018, the work commenced on deepening the bottom to 16 meters. However, at this stage, the work was suspended.

In addition, the management of APM Terminals Poti in March applied to the Ministry of Economy of Georgia regarding the implementation of a new project on the territory near the port of Poti, as well as the expansion and deepening of the port itself.
