Azerbaijan can become member of single transport & logistics network

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.11

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

Azerbaijan and Turkey have great potential to increase the volume of mutual investments, Trend reports citing comments of Amina Bayramova, expert of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC).

According to Bayramova, taking into account the transport corridor with Nakhchivan, the historical Alat-Julfa railway line and the integration of this railway into the Kars-Igdir-Julfa line, provided for in the ‘Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on the Kars-Igdir-Aralik-Dilucu-Sadarak-Nakhchivan-Julfa railway project’, a single transport and logistics network can be created.

She stressed that in the future this project can raise the volume of investments in both countries:

"With this gigantic project, Azerbaijan and Turkey will become the main partners for the implementation of uninterrupted transportation between Europe and Asia, which can increase investment in our countries."

As Turkish ex-Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan said earlier, the Kars-Igdir-Nakhchivan railway is the continuation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway route, and this railway line will also be connected to the logistics center in Kars.

A number of Azerbaijani-Turkish documents, including the above-mentioned Memorandum of Understanding, were signed following the 8th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Turkey High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on February 25, 2020.
