The volume of cargo transported in the East Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran) increased by 2 percent during the first 4 months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through July 22, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Deputy Director of Roads and Transport Department of East Azerbaijan Province Kazem Teymourzadeh said, Trend reports referring to Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.
Teymourzadeh noted that more than 7 million tons of cargo was transported in the East Azerbaijan Province over the reporting period.
The deputy added that also, 1.1 million passengers were transported in the province in the 4 months within the health protocols. The number of passengers transported increased by 41 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
"In total, 285 cargo companies, 120 passenger transportation companies, 73 international cargo companies and 6 international passenger transportation companies operated within the mentioned period," he said.
There are currently 33,500 trucks, 693 passenger buses and 37,000 drivers operating in the East Azerbaijan Province, according to Teymourzadeh.
