BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 28. Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia will soon sign a tripartite agreement on the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway line within the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Shahriar Afandizadeh said at a press briefing in Tehran on August 28, Trend reports citing IRNA.

According to Afandizadeh, the officials of the three countries will discuss investments related to the construction of this railway at the meeting to be held in Azerbaijan.

The deputy minister added that the Iranian government has activated the Iranian part of the North-South Corridor. Within the corridor, the Rasht-Astara railway line is the only uncompleted part in Iran.

“Iran intends to increase trade and transit ties with China and Russia. In this regard, the International North-South Transport Corridor is of great importance for the country,” he said.

Afandizadeh also pointed out that Iran aims to transit 30 million tons of goods between Iran and Russia next year. Necessary steps are being taken to achieve this goal.
