Cargo transit through Iran’s Golestan Province soars

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23. The transit of goods through Iran’s northeastern Golestan Province has seen a significant rise in both value and volume in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 to October 22, 2023), Director General of Golestan Province Customs Office Shahriar Shahriari said, Trend reports.

According to Shahriari, 32,800 tons of goods worth $192 million were transited via the province in 7 months.

However, the official did not specify the nature or the destination of the transited goods.

The director general also said that the province’s customs revenue for the reporting period increased by 213 percent compared to the same period last year and reached 2.39 trillion rials (about $57 million).

Overall, 7.7 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), which is an increase of 8.24 percent compared to the same period last year.
