The geopolitical interests of major players coincide in the Caspian region, director general of the Institute for Caspian Cooperation Sergei Mikheev said during a multimedia roundtable between Moscow and Astana titled "Caspian region: Security Problems and Development Prospects" today.
"The geopolitical interests of major players coincide in the Caspian region, as there are rich oil and gas reserves and the need to minimize security risks is mutually recognized," Mikheyev said.
He added that some third forces are trying to enter the region and strengthen their presence there. Moreover, all the countries of the Caspian region are concerned by the situation with Iran's nuclear program and the threat of a military conflict between it and the West.
