ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 2. Over 7 million tons of cargo have been transported through the Altynkol-Khorgos border crossing [between Kazakhstan and China] in the first seven months of 2023, which is a 30 percent increase compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.
According to Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ - Kazakhstan Temir Zholy), the export cargo transportation volume also surged by 24 percent, reaching 1.9 million tons. The Altynkol station receives a wide range of goods from China, including consumer goods, metals, chemicals, machinery, construction materials, and more.
Overall, the volume of railway transportation through the two border crossings between the countries, Altynkol-Khorgos and Dostyk-Alashankou, amounted to 16.2 million tons, showing a 23 percent growth compared to the same period last year.
The significant increase in cargo transportation volumes via railway is the result of joint efforts and seamless coordination between the teams at the border stations of both countries. The collaboration between Kazakhstan and China has contributed to the smooth flow of railway transportation of goods through the border crossings.
The Altynkol railway station is located in the Almaty region on the Kazakhstan-China border. It serves as a vital gateway for freight traffic from China to Europe, the Persian Gulf countries, Central Asia, and the Caucasus.
