ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 13. The number of MasterCard Worldwide payment cards in circulation in Kazakhstan amounted to 9.69 million at the beginning of October 2023, Trend reports.
Data from Kazakhstan's National Bank shows that, compared to the beginning of October 2022 (8.164 million), the number of cards increased by 1.526 million.
In addition, the number of MasterCard Worldwide cards used has decreased. Thus, at the beginning of October 2023, the number of cards used was 2.726 million (at the beginning of October 2022, 3.025 million).
The number of MasterCard Worldwide debit cards for the period under review amounted to 9.361 million; credit cards - 152,800; debit cards with a credit limit and prepaid: 175,900.
At the same time, 2.65 million debit, 41,600 credit, and 34,500 debit cards with a credit limit and prepaid were used.
At the beginning of 2023, the number of MasterCard payment cards in circulation in Kazakhstan was 7.980 million. Of these, 7.654 million were debit cards, 324,200 credit cards, 2,000 debit cards with a credit limit and prepaid.
In addition, the number of used MasterCard cards was 2.711 million. Thus, the number of used debit cards was 2.634 million, credit cards - 76,200, debit cards with a credit limit and prepaid - 700.
Previously, Mastercard Executive Vice President Nicola Villa stated that Mastercard plans to promote Kazakhstani GovTech solutions abroad.
"Other countries where the company operates are actively interested in Kazakhstan’s experience in the fields of digitalization, the development of e-government, and the cashless economy," he had said.
As of October 1, 2023, Kazakhstan had 72.6 million payment cards in circulation. The most common are debit cards, their share is 80.6 percent, the share of credit cards is 16.7 percent. The share of debit cards with a credit limit and prepaid cards accounted for 2.7 percent.
The number of cards used as of October 1, 2023, amounted to 37.507 million. As of October 1, 2022, this figure was 31.732 million.
Kazakhstan had 62.6 million payment cards in circulation as of October 1, 2022.
