ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 28. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has launched the work of the transport and logistics center in the Chinese Xi'an city in a video format, Trend reports.
Tokayev noted the importance of creating a center for the industry and for Kazakh-Chinese relations in general.
The construction of the center was carried out within the framework of an agreement between the leaders of Kazakhstan and China.
Transport and logistics center was built in the dry port of Xi'an. It will connect the Chinese city of Shaanxi with Kazakhstan, Central Asia and further to Europe.
To note, Xi'an is a transit hub in China, and the dry port is the largest in this country. Here, up to 40 percent of the total volume of container trains between China and the EU is formed.
The design capacity of the Kazakh terminal in the dry port of Xi'an is more than 66,500 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent) per year. The terminal will open access to new markets for exporters from Kazakhstan, will significantly reduce cargo delivery times, and will strengthen Kazakhstan’s position as a reliable transit hub in Eurasia.
Meanwhile, the volume of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China amounted to $31.4 billion in 2023. The volume of trade turnover increased by 30 percent compared to the same period in 2022 ($24.2 billion).
At the same time, in the structure of trade turnover, exports to China for the above period amounted to $14.7 billion, which is 14.7 percent more than from January through December 2022 ($13 billion).
In addition, imports from China from January through December 2023 increased by 50.5 percent and amounted to $16.7 billion. For 2022, imports amounted to $11.1 billion.
