ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 8. The volume of coal transportation by rail in Kazakhstan will be about 74 million tons by the heating season of 2024–2025, Trend reports.
This was stated during the V Coal Industry Forum "Development of the coal chemical industry: technological achievements and prospects" in Astana.
Thus, in the previous heating season (from May 2023 through April 2024), 103 million tons of coal were transported by rail. Of these, 73.5 million tons were shipped throughout the country, and 29.5 million tons were exported.
Thermal power plants received 65.8 million tons of coal. This figure is up 910,000 tons from the same period of the last heating season. Thermal power station coal reserves hit 5.5 million tons for the first time in five years.
At the same time, 7.7 million tons of coal were transported for the population.
For high-quality monitoring of the process of ensuring coal transportation, Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, a national company) has developed an interactive system that allows to track and analyze plans and actual loading of coal, providing effective control over the implementation of daily plans.
Meanwhile, the volume of cargo transportation by rail in Kazakhstan amounted to 416.4 million tons from January through December 2023. This is 2.8 percent more than from January through December 2022.
At the same time, cargo turnover by rail for the above period amounted to 326.8 billion ton-kilometers, which is 4.8 percent more than in the same period in 2022.
