BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, February 17. Kyrgyzstan exported 1.847 tons of gold to China’s Hong Kong last year, Trend reports.
Data from Kyrgyzstan’s State Statistical Committee shows that this figure increased by 9.1 times compared to 2022 (202 kg). The value of the exports reached $115.469 million, which is 9.6 times higher than the $11.979 million in the preceding year.
Among the destinations to which Kyrgyzstan exported gold in 2023, China’s Hong Kong ranked second. The largest amount of gold exported by Kyrgyzstan during the reporting period was to Switzerland, totaling 17.065 tons. The UAE ranked third, with 1.294 tons of gold imported from Kyrgyzstan. Additionally, Kyrgyzstan sold 5.5 kg of gold to Türkiye.
Overall, Kyrgyzstan exported 20.2 tons of gold in 2023, which is a 69-fold increase compared to the 290 kg exported in 2022. The total export value amounted to $1.284 billion, rising by 14 times compared to 2022 ($13 million).
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover reached $15.66 billion in 2023, which is a 29.9 percent increase compared to 2022. The country's exports totaled $3.308 billion, rising by 46.8 percent year-on-year. Imports to Kyrgyzstan amounted to $12.352 billion, which is 26 percent higher than in 2022.
