DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 8. The number of payment cards issued by banks in Tajikistan reached a total of 5.732 million in May 2023, which is an increase of 279,000 cards compared to April 2023, where the circulation stood at 5.453 million, Trend reports.
According to the National Bank of Tajikistan, the country also saw a rise in the number of other payment cards, totaling 755,753. This indicates a growth of 7,882 cards in comparison to April 2023, which recorded 747,871 cards.
Furthermore, the number of bank payment card holders in Tajikistan reached 5.417 million people during the reviewed period, which is 250,000 persons more than in April 2023 (5.167 million).
In terms of transaction volume, bank payment cards facilitated transactions worth 6.022 billion somoni ($554.5 million) in May 2023. The figure increased 12.5 percent compared to the previous month, where the transactions amounted to 5.349 billion somoni ($492.9 million).
Meanwhile, the number of payment cards issued by banks in Tajikistan reached 5.060 million by the end of 2022, increasing 45.4 percent compared to 3.479 million cards at the end of 2021.
