Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has met in Ashgabat with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Cihan news agency reported Sunday.
Davutoglu arrived in the country to participate in commemorative events marking the 15th anniversary of the adoption of Turkmenistan's neutrality status.
At the meeting Berdimuhamedov and Davutoglu discussed bilateral relations, regional issues, commercial and economic ties. The current state of Turkish companies operating in Turkmenistan was also discussed.
December 12, 1995 at a meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York all of 185 member countries voted to adopt a special resolution on the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan. A few days later, a Constitutional Law was adopted in Turkmenistan giving domestic status to the UN decision. December 12 was established as a public holiday.
At the end of the meeting Berdimuhamedov and Davutoglu expressed confidence that relations between the two countries will continue to develop on a mutually beneficial basis.
On Sunday Davutoglu will meet with his Turkmen counterpart, Rashid Meredov and the two ministers will sign the Action Plan for 2011-2012 between the foreign ministries of both countries.
