BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 9. The value of carpet exports from Uzbekistan has reached $12.1 million from January through March 2023, Trend reports via Uzbek State Statistics Committee.

The country’s carpet export has significantly increased in the reporting period - an increase of 80 percent, compared to the same period last year – $6.7 million.

The committee says that the main importers of Uzbek carpets in the reporting period were Kyrgyzstan ($6.8 million), Tajikistan ($1.5 million), Azerbaijan ($1.3 million), Russia ($1.2 million), Afghanistan ($750,000), and Kazakhstan ($340,000).

In 2022, the value of Uzbekistan’s carpet exports amounted to $43.9 million — an increase of $1.8 million, compared to the figure for 2021 ($42.1 million).

Uzbekistan is known as a carpet-producing country. Uzbekistan’s Khiva, Bukhara, and Samarkand regions are considered as main carpet-producing centers.

Uzbekistan earns about $40 million a year, by exporting its carpet products only to the neighboring countries, but also to Europe.

Taking into consideration the positive impact of carpet production on the country's export indicators, in January 2023, Uzbekistan announced that about $300 million will be allocated for the textile industry in 2023, a certain amount of which falls on carpet production.
