TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 20. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $200 million loan to modernize the transmission and distribution system of electricity in Uzbekistan, Trend reports.

The projects will be implemented within the framework of Digital Transformation and increasing the stability of the distribution network program. Thus, 26 distribution substations in the regions of Uzbekistan will be upgraded to digital substations, including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA). The implementation of this project is planned to supply additional energy necessary to meet the growing demand in the country.

"Modernization of Uzbekistan's outdated distribution network is crucial for the country's long-term green and low-carbon strategy," ADB Director General for Central and West Asia Eugenue Zhukov said.

Uzbekistan produced 52.2 billion kWh of electricity from January through August 2023. As per data provided by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy, the recorded number is 5.8 percent more than in the same period of 2022 (49.3 billion kWh). Over 13.06 billion kWh of electricity was supplied to the population in the reporting period, which is 18.4 percent more compared to the same period in 2022 (11.04 billion kWh).
