TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 30. Work on the contract for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan is at the final stage, CEO of Russian Rosatom Alexey Likhachev said, Trend reports.

The remark was made during the Primakov Readings international forum in Moscow.

“By 2019, we thought we'd made all of the critical judgments. While the pandemic slowed several operations, I wouldn't call the Uzbek project dead. The contract to build a nuclear power facility is nearing completion,” he said.

Rosatom's CEO stated that new projects spanning low-power and personnel training have been planned.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan and Russia secured an agreement in 2018 to build a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.
The station is set to be built near Lake Tuskan in the Jizzakh area.

From January to September 2023, Russia's contribution of investments and loans for the growth of Uzbekistan's economy amounted to around $2.9 billion.

According to data published by Uzbekistan's State Statistics Committee, the recorded number accounts for 15.9 percent of total foreign investments, placing Russia in second place among those investing in Uzbekistan.
