The deputy head of the Iran railway company disclosed latest details on Tehran-Ankara-Tehran passenger trains.

“Following two meetings between Iranian and Turkish Railways, we agreed to launch the Tehran-Ankara and Tehran-Van trains as soon as possible,” Mir-Hassan Mousavi, Deputy Head of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI), said at a news conference, Trend reports.

"Despite the fact that the Turkish side insisted on launching the train within the next two months, upon appeal of the Iranian railway company, the Tehran-Van train will be launched on June 27 and Tehran-Ankara on July 29,” the Deputy Director of Iran Railway said.

Explaining the need to initiate the new railway sooner, he said that the peak time for Iranians' trips to Turkey is in the summer, and it also the time of school holidays.

"Passengers will travel to the port of Tatvan at the end of the Van Lake within three to 3.5 hours, and then they will travel from Tatvan to Ankara by trains,” said Mousavi.

“The trip by Tehran-Ankara train will take 60 hours and the travel by Tehran-Van train will take 20-22 hours. Both trains will run on a weekly basis. The Turks have also requested to arrange rail traffic to Tabriz, Tehran and Mashhad," he noted.

“Ticket rates are set up based on international regulations; according to them, the price for Tehran-Ankara train ticket is 43 euros and 20 euros for Tehran-Van train ticket,” he added.

“In Tehran, travelers can pay for ticket in rials; however, it is calculated based on the price in euros. Whether it is free market rate or official rate, will be determined by Central Bank of Iran,” said Mousavi.
