Production capacity of Iranian power plants exceeds 82,000 megawatts

According to the Iranian Energy Ministry, the commissioning of new power plants in Iran has allowed for the production capacity of the country’s power plants to reach 82,060 megawatts over the 5 months (March 21-August 23) of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), Trend reports referring to the ministry's website.

According to the ministry, combined cycle power plants had the highest production capacity rate in Iran, having generated 25,400 megawatts of electricity, which accounted for 31 percent of all the electricity produced in the country during the aforementioned period.

It was noted that gas-fired power stations accounted for about 30.5 percent of all electricity produced in the country during the said period, with the production capacity of these stations having exceeded 25,000 megawatts. Similarly, the production capacity of steam turbines amounted to 15,800 megawatts, or 19.3 percent of the total production nationwide.

It was further noted that the production capacity of hydroelectric power plants reached 11,900 megawatts, which made up 14.6 percent of all electricity produced in the country in 5 months.

Furthermore, the production capacity of electrical substations reached 1,560 megawatts, while that of nuclear power plants reached 1,020 megawatts, with both having accounted for about 1 percent of the total production nationwide.

Meanwhile, the production capacity of power plants producing alternative renewable energy reached about 760 megawatts, while that of diesel power plants reached about 439 megawatts.

According to the ministry, today Iran ranks 9th globally for the capacity of installed power plants.
