TEHRAN, Iran, Sep.28
Trend:
Iran’s government granted permission for the import of 1.8 million tons of wheat by October 22, said the deputy in Ports and Maritime Organization, Trend reports citing IRNA.
Total of 1.9 million tons of wheat has been unloaded in Iran's ports during first half of current Iranian year (started March 21,2021), Farhad Montaser Kohsari was quoted as saying.
The following cargo was carried by 122 ships and unloaded in the country's ports, the official noted.
Iran imported 11 million tons of essential commodities from March 21 to August 23 via 12 ports that distributed cargo to domestic market by trucks and railway.
Food, medicine and other humanitarian supplies are exempt from sanctions Washington re-imposed after U.S. President Donald Trump in 2018.
The sanctions have nevertheless deterred some foreign banks from doing any business with Iran, including funding deals such as food shipments.
