Iran won't lift auto import ban any time soon - minister

TEHRAN, Iran, Oct.2

Trend:

The Iranian government is not expecting to lift the auto-import ban any later than March 2022, in order to prevent the possible rise of foreign exchange rate and loss of financial resources invested in import, said the Minister of Industries, Mine and Trade, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Iran is currently required to reach a balance in its foreign trade and future import would lead to losses, Reza Fatemi Amini noted.

Auto import will resume until the government reaches balance in foreign exchange, the minister indicated.

The government has drafted a special program to improve export that will be announced soon.

Iran has banned importing of cars for the past two years, however, the parliament and Iran Competition Council are debating the possible lift of the auto import ban.
