Mohammad Esmaeil Saeedi, a representative of the city of Tabriz in Iran's parliament, demands that the symbols of Tabriz and the East Azerbaijan Province must be printed on the Iranian banknotes, the IRNA news agency reported Dec. 24.

Saeedi sent a letter to Iran's Central Bank and the country's economy and finance minister demanding that they respect the Tabriz population's request and give instructions on depicting Azerbaijani symbols on the banknotes.

The MP said that from the ancient times up to the present day, the East Azerbaijan Province and Tabriz have had an important place in the economic, political and cultural processes in Iran and in the process of national unity.

"The banknotes printed in the country, depict various symbolism, but unfortunately, none of them has Azerbaijani symbolism," the MP said.
