According to the State Statistics Committee, as of 2016, the Azerbaijani consumer market amounted to 39.2 billion manat, which is by 0.9 percent more than its turnover for 2015.
The monthly consumer expenses are estimated at 339.1 manat per capita in 2016 or by 39.2 manat more compared to 2015.
The retail trade turnover amounted to 30.2 billion manat in 2016, which is by 1.5 percent more than in 2015.
Legal entities ensured 10.7 percent of the trade turnover.
Some 261 manat account for the people’s shopping monthly, including 130.3 manat - food and 130.7 manat - manufactured goods, which is by 36.1 manat more than in 2015.
The retail sales of non-food items exceeded the food trade for the year by 0.24 percent in 2016 for the first time.
According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, food trade (15.08 billion manat) increased by 2.1 percent in real terms and reached 49.9 percent of the retail trade in 2016, while retail sales of non-food products (15.11 billion manat) showed a 0.8 percent real growth and ensured 50.1 percent of turnover.
The citizens spent 1,912.9 billion manat to buy furniture and electrical goods (1.5 percent more than in 2015), 5,244.8 billion manat (+ 0.9 percent) - clothing and footwear, 234.8 million manat (1.4 percent) - computers and gadgets, 419.8 million manat (+ 1.9 percent) - medicine.
Paid services worth 7.8 billion manat were rendered to the population in 2016 or 1.1 percent less compared to 2015. Legal entities ensured 72.7 percent of this growth and rendered the services worth 5,677.4 million manat.
Every citizen of the country used paid services worth 810.3 manat per month in 2016, which is 27.2 manat more than in 2015.
Transportation, public utilities and communication services prevail in the structure of paid services.
Prices
According to the State Statistics Committee, the prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 12.4 percent in 2016 compared to 2015.
The food prices increased by 14.7 percent, non-food items – 16.7 percent and paid services – 5.8 percent in 2016.
Such a high rate of inflation in the country was the result of the impact of national currency devaluation.
The prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 3 percent in Azerbaijan in December 2016 compared to November 2016.
The food prices increased by 4.1 percent, non-food items - by 2.2 percent, paid services – 2.4 percent in Azerbaijan in December 2016 compared to November 2016.
The prices on rice, flour, macaroni, cookies and baklava, buckwheat, beef, mutton and chicken, dairy products, fish products, sausages, eggs, cheese, butter and vegetable oil, sugar and granulated sugar, coffee, tea and cocoa, pears, alcoholic drinks, pomegranates, tomatoes, cucumbers increased in Azerbaijan during a month.
The prices on bananas, apples, lemons, tangerines, persimmons, chestnuts, cabbages, greens, carrots and onions decreased.
The prices on fabric, clothes and shoes, building materials, medications, furniture, household items, rugs and other floor coverings, household textiles, jewelry, glass products, dishes and cutlery, household appliances, computers, stationery goods, books, as well as spare car parts increased in December.
The cost of rental housing, repair of household appliances and cars, international passenger transportation by sea, air and rail increased in December.
The prices on other paid services remained unchanged.
The base index of consumer prices, calculated except for the goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables) increased by 13.3 percent in 2016 compared to 2015.
The producer prices for industrial products increased by 27.5 percent in Azerbaijan in 2016 compared to 2015.
During the reporting period, producer prices in the mining industry increased by 30.9 percent, while in the manufacturing industry – by 15.2 percent.
The producer prices for industrial products increased by 21.7 percent in December 2016 compared to November 2015, while the producer prices in the mining industry - by 23.3 percent and processing industry - 12.7 percent.
The producer prices in oil and gas production increased by 23.4 percent, while by 3.5 percent in the metal ore mining.
The prices increased by 23.1 percent in the production of oil products, 7.5 percent - the weaving industry, 5.4 percent - chemical industry, 4.5 percent - metallurgy, 3.2 percent – clothing manufacturing, 2.5 percent - food industry, 1.4 percent - production of tobacco products, 1.3 percent - pharmaceutical industry.
The prices decreased by 0.2 percent in paper and cardboard production.
The prices decreased by 0.9 percent in the production of rubber and plastic products, 0.6 percent - machinery and equipment, 0.5 percent – beverage production and 0.3 percent - in the production of building materials for the month.
The producer prices in other kinds of activity in the manufacturing industry remained unchanged.
The producer prices for agricultural products decreased by 2.6 percent in Azerbaijan in 2016 compared to 2015.
During the reporting period, the producer prices for vegetable products decreased by 8.9 percent, while the producer prices for livestock increased by 3.4 percent.
The producer prices for vegetable products increased by 2.5 percent, while producer prices for livestock - by 1.5 percent in December 2016 compared to November 2016.
In general, the prices for agricultural products increased by two percent in the country in December.
The prices for wheat, barley, potatoes, cucumbers, persimmons, pomegranates, tangerines, pears and quince increased in December 2016.
The prices for milk, beef, mutton, eggs increased in December 2016. The prices for the rest livestock and vegetable products remained unchanged.
