( dpa ) - A 36-year-old Australian woman collapsed and died after being rescued from floodwaters near the town of Rockingham in Queensland, news reports said Thursday.

The mother of two was found clinging to a tree with a baby in her arms after the car she was in was swept off a flooded road Wednesday.

The woman and the 36-year-old male driver managed to get out of the car with their two boys, a 2-year-old and a 6-month-old, but the woman and the baby didn't make it to higher ground.

A truck driver rescued the mother and her baby, but the woman collapsed and went into cardiac arrest.

More than 350 millimetres of water fell on Tuesday around Rockingham, causing swollen rivers to overflow their banks.
