( dpa ) - A main trans-Alpine rail route connecting Germany to Italy was closed for hours after an excavator discovered an unexploded Second World War bomb in the soil, police said Wednesday.
Bomb disposal officers gave the all clear late Tuesday after removing the detonator of the 250-kilo Allied bomb at Rosenheim, south-east of Munich.
During the emergency, 29 trains had backed up on the blocked line, which connects Munich to Austria and then crosses to Italy via the Brenner Pass.
