Cambodia's first case of the Influenza A/H1N1 virus was confirmed by the Cambodian National Influenza Centre (NIC) on Tuesday, a joint statement released on Wednesday by the Cambodian Health Ministry and the World Health Organization (WHO) said, Xinhua reported.
The infected person was a 16-year-old U.S. citizen who visited the country on June 19 as part of a student group, it said, adding that she developed symptoms the following day and sought medical care at a private clinic on Monday. A sample was collected from the patient and sent to the NIC which was confirmed positive on Tuesday, according to the statement. She is now kept in isolation.
"The Ministry of Health will continue to monitor the situation very closely and keep the public well informed of any updates as they occur," the statement added.
