Flash floods and a landslide on the Indonesian part of Borneo killed at least five people and leaving three others missing, local media reports said Sunday, dpa reported.

Days of rain caused rivers to breach banks in South Kalimantan, flooding more than 3,000 homes and forcing thousands of people to flee to safety. Two people were confirmed dead and three others still missing and feared dead, detik.com online news portal reported.

In East Kalimantan province, a landslide killed three people, reported Kompas daily newspaper.

Rescue workers in south Kalimantan were searching for three missing villagers who were swept away by flood waters in the Satui River of Tanah Bumbu district, the reports said.

Environmental activists have long blamed illegal logging and deforestation for causing landslides in Indonesia.
